I really don't like cheaters!

I was talking with a friend of mine about why this one guy wouldn't die no matter how much I burned him, or shot him in another server. It was then that this link was provided to me which really did explain the guys death rate.
Wow...how cheap can you get. I am only posting it so that you can be aware of it on your server if someone looks extremely odd!

Thatks for the heads up Vixen. Do you know if the server you were playing was a secure one?

AA is just an advanced aimbot and radar. While still unacceptable in every way it will not prevent you from dying. In my experience in trying to keep this stuff out of TFR's server while I was admin there I found that the least amount of people that know about it the better. Not to say we have cheaters here, but people will always be people. This thread should be moved to an admin only section.

I was thinking common sense, but whatever works for you.

eel free to move the topic...no worries. Otherwise it was a secure server and the guy said the cheat gives u health with each shot or burn u make. So dying in a head to head pyro battle is not gonna happen if this is true.

BTW, if you think someone is doing something like this then go spectate them and pick the view where you're looking through their view not over their shoulder. It's pretty clear when someone is using an aimbot because they'll hit seomeone when they're not even appearing to aim at them. We had someone jump into the server in August doing that and it wasn't that hard to figure out once you've seen it.
And if you see someone doing it here please let us know so we can ban them. That's an instant perma-ban here.

There's no problem talking about this kinda stuff in the open here. Thanks for bringing it to out attention Vixen!
Always good to know a little background on this stuff so we know what to watch for if there is an issue.

Thanks, Vix. It's been a while since I took the time to study how to find cheaters. I'll find time to look at that one this weekend.
Thanks for thinking of us...and good to see you.

Does everyone know how to record a match. That can be helpful at times. It only captures things from the recording persons point of view but can at least possibly add some creedance to a ban or kick.

yah it's a fairly simple process just open up console and type:
"record cheater"
There won't be much slowdown, my computer is pretty low end and I miss about 1 fps out of this, nothing major. There might be a momentary stutter at the start but that's it.
You can later go back and find the demo in your tf folder under "cheater.dem" these can be shared and anyone can view them.
I have this process bound to a key. If names overlap they'll be given a number at the end, so it's:
cheater.dem
cheater1.dem
cheater2.dem
etc.

I understand, im just saying that it wasn't AA that was causing him not to die. Perhaps it was some other hack or prog. Yes, the AA is extremely easy to detect on a server like ours. Stuff like SMG's and engineer pistols no having any accuracy bloom and always hitting from across the screen. It shouldnt take long for an admin to realize someone is using one. Most people using these things stick to large population un-managed servers.

doesnt running in spectator mode flag you for an afk kick tho? or do we not run that option?

I believe you can spec as long as you want if you choose to enter spec mode (or if you do stuff like change the camera and the player spec'd). If you get moved to spec for being AFK for 2 min, you will be kicked after 2 min of spec if you do nothing. At least that is my understanding. Correct me if I am wrong, Cobra.

ok because I went into spec mode on Arena the other night (since I dont like arena maps) and i got some weird kick for afk voting thing...unless thats something different.

You will be moved to spectate if you don't move around for 2 minutes, it give yous a 60 second warning and a count down.
As spectator, if there are more than 14 people in the server, it will kick you for not moving for 2 minutes. So if you are spectating during arena, it will warn you and you just need to change camera position or go to free look to reset it.
I put this AKF manager on the server so that admins didn't have to wonder if someone was AFK, it is automated and therefore impartial, at least that was the intent. Since it warns everyone in bright green, I hoped that no one would be kicked accidentally if they aren't afk.
I notice as engi, if I am sitting on my gun not moving, it will warn me, I just move a little and that resets it.
