Vanilla server?

Vanilla server?

Postby ednos on Sun Dec 13, 2009 1:35 am

Hey, I heard a rumor that you guys host a vanilla TF2 server! This got me excited, because I could enjoy the game again. Sirus told me to join Chicago, which had a server message that I should join Dallas for a vanilla TF2 experience, and I was able to use an item. I joined the Dallas server and was still able to use an item, and people told me that Chicago was vanilla. So, which one is supposed to be vanilla, and why isn't it?

Long time, no see, ednos. Welcome back!

We did, indeed, set Chicago up for Vanilla TF2. Unfortunately, the release of L4D2 (among other factors) brought a significant decline in TF2 play time. I'm sorry to say we had trouble filling one server, let alone two.

That, along with requests for L4D2, led us to reconsider hosting two TF2 servers. As of the first week of December, we dropped our Chicago-based TF2 server and stood-up a pair of L4D2 boxes.

If there's sufficient interest, I see no reason we couldn't look at implementing our original Throwback Thursday plan on Dallas, to satisfy those of us interested in the "vanilla" experience...

Ah, I see. How long will Chicago stay up, then? (It's still up right now.) I'd definitely be interested in a single-night "Old School" deal.

BTW, welcome back ednos. We have no idea how long the Chicago server will stay up. We're suprised it's still up now. We stopped paying for it at the beginning of the month but Apoplexy has left it up for now.

That's a bug in their system that I pointed out to them and I know they would be very appreciative if you notified them as they seem to be unable to tell right now.

Blaine was on our server last night, I can't imagine he didn't see it in his server browser.

I noticed last week that it had a web address in the description for a UK clan. ...Gamers.UK. Or something like that. I had assumed that it was already leased to someone else.

Either I'm confused or you are confused. There is a bug in their payment system right now, where servers that aren't paid for are typically deleted and canceled. However, the bug is keeping those servers up and running. AI has a lot of servers to maintain so they do not keep track personally and rely on their system. However, as mentioned it is currently bugged so if you cancel your server and stop paying for it they may not catch it and keep your server running until you notify them.

I am not confused, we are talking about two different things and I didn't make myself clear enough. It was just an observation, nothing more.

Thanks Shep. Told them what you said and that our server was still out there. It should be gone now.
